Buzzworthy Bridal Trends: Dramatic Backs

Claire Pettibone "Viola"gown available at StarDust Celebrations

Today we’re chatting with Michelle Green from StarDust Celebrations about hot wedding dress trends for spring. One of her favorites, and ours as well, is wedding dresses with a dramatic back, also known as the portrait back. While we aren’t exactly sure where the inspiration behind this trend comes from (please say it wasn’t Twilight!), we definitely understand the appeal behind a dramatic back. Somehow incredibly sexy, feminine, and coy all at the same time, these backs really make a statement. The amounts of drama ranges from white lace to nude mesh or complete keyhole cutouts, and we have seen backs adorned with everything from beads, rhinestones, and intricate embroidery. I especially love the illusion back with buttons delicately placed along the spine (okay Kristen Stewart, I’ll admit your Carolina Herrera dress was beautiful).

This style of dress isn’t for the faint of heart. Any sight of a bra strap will ruin this beautiful look. Another positive to the portrait back is it gives your guests a stunning view while they watch you take your vows. Three designers Michelle highlighted for dramatically backed dresses are Claire Pettibone, Matthew Christopher, and Hayley Page. All three designers and dresses are available at StarDust. Check out more stunning designs after the jump.

  2. My wedding dress has a portrait back that I actually need tailored (it’s too big). any recommendations for tailors that can be trusted with that type of tailoring and that arent too expensive?

    Thanks!
